Why it is ok to marry someone even though you are in love with someone else?

Disclaimer: I am not against love marriage. I just want to give another perspective.

Let me assume that you are in so much in love with a person and your parents are opposing whatever the reason maybe. You want to marry that person so that you stay happy in your life. What if I told you that same happiness can be retained if you marry someone your mom says? I know it is very hard even to think of that but for a small period of time let us take emotions out of the equation. Let us see that how by an experiment.

Few days before the cricket world cup semi-final, Indians were asked how they would feel, if India won or lost the match against New Zealand. However, before making the predictions about their feelings, one group of fans were asked to describe their typical day (describers) and other group were not asked to describe (non-describers). Few days after Dhoni got runout, fans were asked to report the happiness level. From the result of the study, it is found that only non-describers overestimated the impact the game would have on their live. Non-describers missed the other aspect of their life such as good times with their friends and family, their work life etc.,

Apply the same thing to your marriage life. When you think that you are not going to marry the person you love, you miss out the details of the love. You still have other aspect of their life such as your work life, friends and parents. Still not convinced? That is ok because I expect you to not be convinced (because I have one more point).

In one study, the types of participants were lottery winners, control group and those who lost their legs in an accident (paraplegics). After a year, control group and lottery winners were almost equally happy. Paraplegics were only slightly less happy than lottery winners. This is what you call Habituation, that is you get used to both good and bad things. If you think that you can sacrifice your talking to parents to this little bit of happiness, then just go for it because you live life your life only once.
